‘I am too young to play a mother on TV’-Deepti Shrikant

Deepti Shrikant plays Saumya, who tries best to make the family that she has been married into happy in Sony TV’s Bade Acche Laggte Hai. We in talks with Deepti

Are you like Saumya in real life?
I do love fun and humour just like Saumya. Like her I am however serious in situations where I am required to be so. Like Saumya I take good care of my family too and I can’t see anyone crying. However once in a blue moon I need a shoulder to cry on. That is when I think I can’t handle a grave situation all by myself.

Would you like Saumya to be a mother on the show soon?
No. I am too young to play a mother on TV. Saumya is to be pre-occupied with being a mediator between Ram and Priya. She will only think of motherhood after Ram and Priya are happily together.

Do you think Rishab and Saumya’s marital track isn’t being well explored?
I think, Rishab and Saumya’s marital track should be explored better. They aren’t really behaving like husband and wife but how good college buddies behave. The creatives should show how cool they are as a couple.

How do you bond with Sunny Goraya who plays your onscreen husband?
Sunny Goraya is a very loving and caring friend. He knows that as I am not from Mumbai, there is nobody to pack lunch for me. He shares his mom’s home cooked tiffin with me. We have a great chemistry and spend a lot of time together.

Which historical character would you like to play?
I’d like to play Princess Jodhabai or Jhansi Ki Rani. They were both warriors. I’ve just played goody goody down-to-earth girls till now and I would love to play a fighter. Jhansi Ki Rani fought for her country. Jodha Bai’s life involves a beautiful love story. She was very strict about Hindu culture but accepted Islam too.

What are your hobbies?
Acting is my favourite hobby. I love to think, dance and learn technical things like camera work.

What about the Indian TV industry would you like to change?
I don’t think gossip about stars should be created to make the show a hit. Also finer aspects of foreign cinema and realistic films should be imbibed in TV serials.
